Memphis Radio Like It’s Never Been Heard Before

May 3, 2013

Dr. Alan Keyes gave an explicit, impassioned rendering of abortionist Kermit Gosnell’s murder trial on KWAM 990 last Saturday. It was disturbing, provocative, unforgettable radio. Not your typical Memphis fare.

Charlotte Bergmann and Charles Albert Johnson, III have broken new ground with  Straight Down the Line with Charlotte and Charles. Unabashed  and unbowed black conservatives, Charlotte and Charles challenge Memphis area listeners to engage in controversial topics with minds open to new perspectives.

Last week’s show featuring Dr. Keyes was the first in a series on abortion and its impact on the African American community. The Gosnell trial, pointedly ignored by the mainstream media for weeks, has shocked America with the realization that  “back alley” abortion horror stories  still exist 40 years after  Roe v. Wade .

This week, Charlotte and Charles welcome pro-life activists Dr. Alveda Kingniece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Father Frank Pavone, head of Priests for Life.

Dr. Alveda King

Dr. King is Director of African-American Outreach for Priests for Life and a voice for Silent No More, a campaign that exposes the long-lasting emotional, psychological and spiritual pain that abortion can cause, while offering healing to mothers who have chosen to terminate pregnancies. Dr. King had two abortions – one forcibly committed by her physician without her consent – when she was a young woman.

Fr. Pavone is lauded as one of the great heroes of the human rights movement. He has led the First Amendment battle against  the HHS mandate (soon to be enforced by  Obamacare)  that forces Catholic and other religious employers to violate their beliefs by providing employee health insurance coverage for sterilization, contraception, and abortion inducing drugs.

On May 18, Charlotte and Charles have booked Lila Rose, the 24-year old investigative journalist and activist for the pre-born  whose shocking undercover videos have exposed  multiple abuses and illegal activities at Planned Parenthood.

Prominent guests like these,  coupled with their bold stands for the sanctity of life and marriage, respect for the constitution, and limited government in a town dominated by liberal Democrats, are making Straight Down the Line with Charlotte and Charles must-hear radio. Whether you agree or not with the views expressed by the hosts and their guests, the discussions are part of a new Memphis conversation that deserves to be heard.

Tune in to KWAM 990 at 9:00 a.m. this Saturday for the live broadcast. (You may also listen online to the live stream at For the next five weeks, the  recorded show will be aired again on Sunday evenings at 5:00 p.m.)
